Napalm. It’s what’s for breakfast!
It’s a Friday off for me, and I seem to have set myself an unusually large number of tasks and running about type things for the day. Fortunately none of it is on a real schedule per se, just needs to be done. First up on the list is to pay myself. I love pay day
Then it’s off to load some money on to das credit card, set aside a disturbingly high amount for GST (to be repeated next month. Yick). The remainder of the odds and ends is just picking a few things up – notably, picking up a surprise for Teh Dark Nymph of Doom ™ to complete part 1 of 3 of Ayitpay Orwardfay. Still not sure what to get Zwee and Deidra, but I have a few ideas for both that I believe ebay can help with *grin*
*pauses to run off and refill the coffee*
Oh hell yeah. *This* is the way to spend a morning. Snarfing back the liquid of the gods while listening to some spiffy choonz. Speaking of choonz, I managed to grab a 4 cd set of the Red Army Choir last night. There’s some really good music in there. As many know, I’m generally not big on vocals, but some of this has been fun
to listen to.
Segueing from the Red Army Choir, another nifty bit of swag came in the other day – the Soviet officer’s map case, and a 1950′s map of the USSR and Europe, in Cyrillic. You can definitely tell this map saw some real use, and was then retired – it has a child’s drawings all over the back *grin* Not honestly worried though. I didn’t pay much for it, and not being collector quality lets me put it up on my wall with very little guilt. Which will likely be done later tonight or tomorrow.
Further misadventures in my recent Ferengi-like acquisitional splurge nearly resulted in a bit of a spat between myself and a seller on ebay. I’d ordered and paid for a second Stasi uniform. The initial amount for shipping turned out to be inadequate, and I had paypal’ed off the remainder. 2 and a bit weeks later, still no sign. So I
email the seller and get told I still owe shipping. Fortunately I’m a big a pack rat with email and data as I am with other stuff, so I forwarded off the paypal receipt. Looks like an spam filter somewhere must have eaten the one he should have gotten, so the uniform is now en route.
I’m also quite enjoying the Vostok KGB watch. While the band is a bit on the small side, it looks great and I’m really happy with it. I’ll be hunting around today for a reputable watchmaker type person so I can actually follow the destructions that advise on having it cleaned and maintenanced once a year. I’d like this baby to run til the end of my days.
I managed to finish my litle craft project and now have the Soviet Council ID card mounted properly. Perty My room is in serious danger of turning into a bit of a cold war museum these days, but I’m ok with that *grin* I’m enjoying the Stasi Files Unveiled book I got through Amazon, but I have to admit I’m not impressed with the
author. The information seems good but her conclusions and observations seem weak or obvious. There’s some obvious Westerner type bias, which I expected, but I also expect an author to try harder to work past it.
Jeebus, this post turned out to be a lot longer than I initially intended…
Have a good day folks, and be excellent to each other!
